the web wins

Controversial columnist Jay Mariotti resigns from Chicago Sun-Times

Columnist bemoans sports journalism now 'a Web site business' Jay Mariotti, the opinionated and polarizing sports columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times, has resigned after 17 years with the paper, he told the Tribune on Tuesday night.

Just back from Beijing, where he covered the Olympics, Mariotti said in a phone interview that he decided to quit after it became clear while in China that sports journalism had become "entirely a Web site business. There were not many newspapers there." He added that most of the journalists covering the Games were "there writing for Web sites."

Mariotti, whose public battles with fellow staffers, team owners, managers, coaches and rival columnists are legendary, didn't disclose any specific plans except to say he will continue doing his regular stint on ESPN's "Around the Horn."

He said he "is talking with a lot of Web sites" and added that the future of his business "sadly is not in newspapers."

Woman Attempts To Kidnap Ex-Virtual Boyfriend

Woman Attempts To Kidnap Ex-Virtual Boyfriend

CLAYMONT, Del. (CBS 3) ― A woman wanted in the bizarrely complicated attempted kidnapping of her former virtual boyfriend has been apprehended after a multi-state search.

New Castle County Police said 33-year-old Kimberly Jernigan of North Carolina was apparently distraught after her online relationship with a 52-year-old man from Claymont, Delaware came to an end.

The pair apparently met online in "Second Life." A virtual relationship began between the victim, whose character was a Lion, and Jerrigan, whose online persona was said to be a virtual woman.

When the two met in reality several months ago, police said the victim ended the relationship, sending Jernigan into a downward spiral.

In the beginning of August, Jernigan allegedly drove to the victim's Pennsylvania workplace and attempted to kidnap him at gunpoint. While she was unsuccessful, she returned two weeks later to track down the victim's Delaware address.

Police said Jernigan posed as a postal worker in order to locate the victim's new address, as he had recently moved. After four days of searching, authorities said she found residence in the Whitney Presidential Towers on the 7100 block of Society Drive in Claymont.

With her dog Gogi in tow, investigators said Jernigan cut and removed a screened window in order to enter her virtual ex's apartment.

When the victim arrived home on Thursday, August 21, he told police he saw someone pointing an object at his chest that was projecting a laser beam. He immediately fled the apartment and contacted police.

Officers arriving at the scene discovered a pair of handcuffs, a roll of duct tape, a Taser and a BB gun as well as the suspect's dog.

Police said Jernigan had bound her dog Gogi with duct tape and put him in the bathroom as he was making too much noise. The dog was said to be uninjured, but the SPCA is looking into possible charges of animal cruelty.

Approximately an hour after the incident, authorities in Maryland spotted Jernigan's vehicle at a rest stop on I-95. She was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Jernigan is currently facing charges of attempted kidnapping, burglary and aggravated menacing.

Return of my SL Rhizome

Sorry last time I blogged this image I put so much Mash-up stuff that the post drove most browsers crazy.

I just wanted to restate the idea.  Second Life is located in a space described by SLURL which locates things essentially:

internet.Google.SecondLife.SIM.x.y.z

A blog has a post date so blogging a SLURL link will associate not only a date, but a title, text, and even other links.  These blogs can connect spaces in SL to information in the Cloud or even GPS via Google Earth.  Also associations to other kinds of Mapping like a mapping to Mars for some simulations.

And in time Google Earth can have links back to Second Life.  Allowing people to move frim Virtual Reality to Virtual Second Reality,.

Connecting

The most basic form of exchange between humans is highly sexual. The internet is expanding that level of imagination, giving us inputs that can be super charged for sexual content, but lack the basic reality we desire.

Lets face it, the computer is a sexual tool.

Babbage and Ada

True vs Virtual Victorian images

TheVirtual love of the Victorian has long been reflected in the myth thata Victorian computer had been designed by Babbage that could work. Thisis not true, the design could never have worked, it was too complex tobe mechanical.

AndBabbage himself lacked the kind of personality that could get a massiveproject like this even started, fighting with his designer and makingenemies.

And yet these 2 Victorians are raised to a special status in Virtual Reality

Sexuality

Sexuality and Second Life

Photos from The Great Exploreation of Second Life.

I apply sociology to Second Life, and right now I am studying gender. But I have an interest in virtual sexuality.

Sociologists use several different words for our common word of "sex" or "sexuality", as do psychoanalysts and feminists.

As for a person's sex they speak of Gender and gender.

But we also talk about sexuality either as one's identity in the field of sexual acts, a rate and range of sexual acts, the meaning assigned sexual acts and their motivations.

Faucualt wrote about how Greece and Rome gave its male citizens and

Sex and the sexual are fully language concepts. Binaries or sets they are understood by philosophers and linguists. But Sexuality is a contested area where some assert sexuality, others culture, power, wealth, or language construct the narratives we tend to live with.

For the psychoanalysts sexuality is a force. But it is not always a brute force. Freud has it a brute force and Jung agreed only diminished its scope of power. But Lacan as a lost joy that could never be held in language and since we are forever in language can never be part of us.

And why gender?

Fun demands gender

Until we all become bisexual without gender there is no sex. Our culture has taken sex hostage in the control matrix of Gender

Forces of Gender Construction

How the woman construct forms in Second Life

In Second Life the woman as dreamed of in mass media becomes real.

In our culture we say a woman should be young, pretty, fit, thin, and have nice tits.

In SL a woman is young, pretty, fit, thin, and has firm tits.

But does the image just make a robot?

Politics, the body and the war for culture

The body is insert in to a political confict. The body as an object of male forces, as a hub in which cum and pleasure flow is hear turned on its head. This woman uses her bodies locus as a object of desire to make a political message

Protesters becoming Gitmo concentration camp inmates. Here a woman assumes the identity of a muslim male. The scale of powers the Sate applies against certain bodies is her assumed as a protest. The body can assume an identity in direct challenge of the idealogy that produces the identity. This identity challenges Power to show its methods to a public global discourse.

But radical images can construct radical violent male identities which inforce a extreme and limited set of identites. Here the God Rule rof Persia uses his identity to construct the male of the Islamic Republic as soldier. The soldiers identity in this image is constructed by the background of the Total God King. In ancient Persion/Iranian style of Asia the identity is small below the ruler.

And in this context the blog sex trade creates the places for thousands of women. Here sex workers merge spiritual identity in to there roles as sex usage objects.

The limits impossed by biology and culture

Biology and history produces other humans who fail to fill the should of our consumer society. This image can sell nothing but perhaps NGO funding.

Culture produces an wild sometimes chaotic set of techologies for constructing bodies. The Sadu use his penis as a centre of a spiritual project.

And in the end the fate of the biology boundries placed on us set limits to identity and can result in the termination of a self at any time.

The culture forces driving virtual gender identity

Our culture is a war in which gender is defined. Forces of commerce and male pornographic consumption have lead to female constructs that play in to may needs and insecurities. The woman has been formed in to the item of desire, she holds the joy of biological life.

In this war of women fighting each other to win in the channel they elect to contact men and the male domination of status and money. Some women elect to be trophy wives or in this case a woman who works as a stripper has altered herself to such a degree she no longer looks organic.

This process is driven by a mass media culture that on all levels presents images of what woman should be. Women and men magazines are both full of images of what the woman should be.

But the strange outcome is that the woman in the end owns the definition of sexuality. It is not that idealogy fully produces identity but that identity and idealogy are in a discourse. The emergence of identites like this one, full of sex, confidence and pure elegence are powerful images of what the woman COULD BE. This image defines a woman which is more full of power than any male obsession of problem.
